Saint Catherine Academy, a private, state-approved special education school of the Diocese of Bridgeport serves students with developmental disabilities. The Art teacher provides lessons that are an extension of classroom activities. Art classes allow students to explore a variety of media and express their creativity. The Special Education Classroom teacher collaborates weekly with the Art teacher to make suggestions as to the appropriate modifications for individual students. The Art teacher also provides instruction to the adults enrolled in the Adult Day program at Saint Catherine Center. The Art teacher supports, promotes and adheres to the vision and mission of Saint Catherine Center.

This is a ten month (10) month part time position. The ideal candidate must have a valid Connecticut certification-art education and experience in a school setting working with students with disabilities.

Provides for individual learning needs by incorporating a variety of teaching strategies and materials.
Actively participates in the school-wide positive school climate initiatives and implements positive behavior support plans in collaboration with the classroom teacher according to the needs of each student.
Prepares and implements weekly lesson plans.
Collaborates with Special Education Teachers, Teaching Assistants, Occupational Therapists, Speech Therapists and Physical Therapists.
Assists in incorporating Assistive Technology tools into the classroom setting in support of students’ IEPs.
Notifies the Director of Education (Principal) of any incidents and/or potential problems requiring special attention.
Assumes designated responsibilities within the school concerning the supervision of children and proper use of educational materials and equipment.
Assists in maintaining an organized classroom.
Other duties as assigned.
